Elevance Health Responds to Communities Affected by Hurricane Helene

Press Release
September 30, 2024

INDIANAPOLIS – (September 30, 2024) – Elevance Health and its philanthropic arm, Elevance Health Foundation, are committed to strengthening the health of communities across the U.S. through community resiliency and disaster response efforts related to Hurricane Helene.

Elevance Health and its Foundation are providing $500,000 in new grant funding to help communities affected by Hurricane Helene. As needs continue to arise, this funding will ensure community-based organizations are equipped to mobilize efforts in impacted communities to address critical needs such as access to food, shelter, hygiene kits and recovery supplies.

“We are only beginning to see the impact and devastation from Hurricane Helene,” said Gail K. Boudreaux, President and Chief Executive Officer, Elevance Health. “Our hearts go out to everyone affected. We are part of the communities we serve with thousands of our own associates located in impacted areas. Elevance Health and its Foundation are driven by their shared commitment to improving lives and communities, and we stand ready to support those in need.”

The $500,000 pledge is in addition to funding the Foundation has provided preemptively to the following disaster-relief organizations so they can quickly help communities in need. This funding includes:

  • $1 million to the American Red Cross’ national Annual Disaster Giving Program, which has mobilized to provide immediate response in Florida and other impacted states. This financial support helps the Red Cross provide safe shelter, meals, mental health support and more.
  • $300,000 to Team Rubicon equipping them with the necessary support to provide services within days of a disaster. Team Rubicon’s disaster response operations include debris removal, route clearance and expedient home repair.
  • $250,000 to Americares, enabling deployment of supplies and other assistance in the impacted region.
  • $100,000 to Direct Relief allowing for quick and direct response to specific requests from local partners, as coordinated with government authorities to ensure efficient use of resources.

Additionally, Elevance Health associates who donate to the Foundation’s signature charities for disaster relief efforts receive a $1 to $1 match.

Elevance Health also wants to ensure members continue receiving healthcare during a crisis. Its affiliated health plans are making it easier to refill prescriptions, and access healthcare services.

Elevance Health and the Foundation are actively monitoring the aftermath of Hurricane Helene and are continuing to collaborate with their partners to provide additional support as needed.
